Why You Need A Health Coach

Why You Need A Health Coach

The Health Coaching field is a growing world, and it seems like everyone is doing it. You can log onto Instagram or do a quick google search and find an abundance of different coaches specializing in different niches. As a health coach, I find that a great big deal! I love the field, I love being in it and I love having a health coach. I want to take the time to tell you why you need a health coach but let's start with what you’re really wondering. You want to know, what does a health coach even do?? Are health coaches legit?

What is a health coach really?

According to The Institute of Integrative Nutrition (where I achieved my certification of course), a health coach is a mentor and wellness professional that may help guide others through dietary and lifestyle changes meeting each person's individual needs. A health coach provides private or group coaching sessions.

As an Integrative Health Coach, I recognize each person's unique (or bio-individual) needs. Each coaching program is individualized based on the bio-individual belief that people have different dietary, lifestyle, emotional, and physical needs. There are so many factors to a healthy life beyond what we eat.

Health Coaches provide support beyond the plate by approaching wellness coaching sessions through primary food concepts such as spirituality, physical movement, relationships, home environment, and cooking, and so much more. Although these might not feel like the obvious answers to reaching health goals, nourishing your mind, body, and soul with these concepts are often the missing link to reaching your goals.

Yes, with a health coach you will be supported in a new dietary lifestyle, but it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle and it’s what works for you. You can have your favorite foods, of course, but you’ll be empowered to nourish your body with delicious and healthy foods which will in turn help reduce cravings, headaches, fatigue, etc.

Hopefully, that helps clear up what a Health Coach is and what they do. Now, moving on to the next question:

Why You Need a Health Coach

You’re struggling with food. Maybe you’re afraid of carbs, you think you need more protein, you want to cut out animals or dairy, you found out your allergic to a crap ton of foods, you want to learn some recipes, you want to lose OR gain weight, eat more or less, or something else that has to do with food! Maybe you want to know how to begin to eat healthily. Health Coaches help empower and guide you through all of these desires and changes and teach you how to eat healthily.

You find yourself constantly looking for a new diet. Health coaches help you ditch the diet-mindset! If it’s a dietary lifestyle you’re looking for (such as Vegan/Vegetarian, Paleo, Plant-Based, etc) They can help provide you with what foods would benefit you and even help you come up with a grocery list!

You want someone to talk to about relationships. Relationships include family, friends, and significant others. It is important and great to have a supportive relationship with all of the people in your life and it’s empowering to have an “outside source” as well. As an Integrated Health Coach, my certification has also provided me worksheets, tools, tip & more on how to improve relationships!

(Side Story, my health coach has helped me greatly with the relationships in my life. From friends and family and even my romantic life, having an “outside source” is so important to me as it helped me learn to take a deep breath, express myself honestly, be patient and understanding, and so much more!)

You want some motivation to work out or just get moving! There are hundreds of ways to get your body moving! Weight lifting, yoga, running, tai chi are just some of the forms of exercise regimes you could get into. Cleaning the house, chasing after your babies, going for a walk alone or with a buddy or pet are just some of the other ways you can get movement into your life. If you spend most of your time sitting (many of us have switched to remote jobs this year), bringing movement into your life is essential to a healthy lifestyle. Having a health coach can motivate you and provide tools for bringing movement into your life! Bonus, if possible, health coaching sessions can be done while going for a walk together!

You’re looking to make some changes in your life, big or small! Some people want (or need) some spirituality in their life, others want a career change or education upgrade. Some people want to make changes in all of these areas of life, or something else! A health coach can support you through these changes, help you by providing tools, tips, exercises on these changes, and more. (I am certified in Reiki as well, which can help people get centered and be more self-aware. Reiki can be done in person or even from a distance!)

Having a Health Coach can help you with Self-Care. This is my favorite reason you need a health coach and it is why I signed up with a health coach as well. Self Care isn’t selfish, it’s actually about getting real with yourself. Self Care is totally about bubble baths, a trip to the nail salon, and buying high-quality clothes, it’s ALSO about being on top of your finances, bills, hygiene, mental health, and so much more.

Hopefully, this has helped clear up for you what a health coach is and why you need one. Now, if you’ve read this and feel like “Wow, I really could use a health coach,” then let’s talk! Click here to sign up for a free health consultation. I am so excited to help you reach your goals.
